Minerals and Products
It is a FREE pavilion-based event with curriculum-correlated, hands-on activities for Grade 7 students and teachers. Careers are linked throughout each pavilion. Approximately 300 students participate in MAP during 1/2 day sessions. Over 30 mining industry members volunteer. Each year MAP travels to different locations in Saskatchewan.

MAP Pavilions
Exploration – Play mineral resource curling to learn about where Saskatchewan’s mineral resources are located and discover how drill cores, magnets, and conductivity help geologists find mineral resources. Then, learn how to test the physical properties of minerals to identify them.
Safety – Gear up and perform safety tasks with a mine rescue team. Learn about Personal Protective Equipment and debunk myths about radioactivity.
Sustainability – make choices and vote on complex decisions that are interconnected between the environment, the economy, and society. Become an environmental engineer as you design a reclamation plan.
Mining – work as a team to mine for coal, use solutions to mine for potash, or try cookie mining to see if you will be profitable. Even drive an autonomous vehicle delivering ore minerals without a driver.
Processing – separate target minerals from waste minerals using bubbles, magnets, gold panning, and sieves.
Products – Match minerals to products while learning how computers, bicycles, food, and electricity depend on mining. Try world map bean bag toss to learn where Saskatchewan’s minerals go.
Each student receives a booklet to answer questions at each pavilion and collect stamps to be entered into a prize draw.
