The Saskatchewan Mineral Exploration and Government Advisory Committee (SMEGAC) have developed the Mineral Exploration Guidelines to assist government and industry in exploration permitting.
This handbook provides information to assist in the planning, initiation and completion of a mineral exploration program in a fashion that will help minimize environmental impacts and meet relevant legislative requirements. SMEGAC members include representatives from industry, through the Saskatchewan Mining Association, and provincial and federal regulatory agencies.
Mineral exploration companies are encouraged to review the Proponent Handbook – Voluntary Engagement with First Nations and Métis Communities to Inform Government’s Duty to Consult Process that describes what projects have the potential to trigger government’s duty to consult, what information is relevant to government’s duty to consult, and how to document information in a way that is useful. The Handbook also provides guidance on building relationships and facilitating productive meetings with First Nations and Métis communities.
